Moms Across Indiana Are Facing Crisis. You Can Help Keep Families Together.

Step in and make a real impact in the lives of local moms and children.

Preventable Family separations are a real crisis in indiana

Every year, thousands of children in Indiana enter foster care. Many of these separations could be prevented with the right support — like helping moms navigate crises such as poverty, unstable housing, or lack of childcare.

Children in Foster Care

Over 13,000 children enter foster care in Indiana each year, stretching the system and leaving many families without support.

Preventable Placements

About 76% of foster care placements result from challenges that could be prevented with guidance and resources.

Large Financial Burden

Each child in foster care costs taxpayers roughly $XX,XXX per year. EMA Advocates help families stay together and reduce these costs.

Become an ĒMA Advocate:

ĒMA Advocates are trained volunteers with a passion to see families preserved through mother advocacy. The ĒMA Advocate builds a meaningful connection with one mom, works together towards her goals, is a voice box for her progress and needs in the community, and helps her stay connected to support. When a mom has an Advocate, she receives holistic care that solely stems from a place of relationship. (More details below)

What is an ĒMA Advocate?

Advocates are trained volunteers with a passion to see families preserved through mother advocacy. The ĒMA Advocate builds meaningful relationship with one mom, works together towards her goals, is a voice box for her progress and needs in the community, and helps her stay connected to support. When a mom has an ĒMA Advocate, she receives holistic care that solely stems from a place of relationship.

ĒMA Advocates are paired with a mother from the very beginning of her journey through the program. ĒMA Advocates are trained and equipped to provide the social, emotional and tangible support vulnerable moms need to move from crisis to stability.

Who Does an ĒMA Advocate Serve?

Moms in crisis who are experiencing poverty, at-risk of family separation, or with children in foster care and working towards reunification.

What is the Commitment?

ĒMA Advocates are paired to one mom in the ĒMA Program. The time commitment varies, but typically an Advocate will invest 2 hours per week over the course of 10 advocacy sessions. All sessions can be done virtually or in-person. In that time, they work closely with your ĒMA Program Coordinator to ensure the mom is receiving her needed services.

What Does a Typical Advocacy Session Entail?

Each week, ĒMA Advocates schedule a time with their assigned mom to meet virtually or in person. During that hour, an ĒMA Advocate will review her action plan, set weekly tasks, and discuss any current needs. The Advocate then uses an evidence-based curriculum and works through a structured lesson provided by ĒMA. The goal of the hour-long session is to build relationship, provide education, and support the mom towards achieving the goals on her action plan.
